The Recipe Diaries

I’m thrilled to be writing this post! For the past three years, I’ve been chronicling the title and source of every professional recipe that I’ve made. Doesn’t that sounds daunting? :) Well, it really hasn’t been.

The task has been very simple. All that I’ve been doing is recording a few words each time I go into the kitchen. However, after a few years, I’ve filled the back pages (kind of like an index) of my various diaries. One by one, the recipes flooded the pages, and now I want to put them ALL on my blog. . . all (to be determined number) of them!

So here goes nothing, in chronological order, every recipe that I’ve made during the past three years. . .

*EDIT – This list is pretty epic. It’s taken me a few hours to type. The bolded recipes are the really, really special ones and the orange recipes are the flops. I may or may not add links to the blog ones. If you have any questions about a recipe, please don’t hesitate to ask! I’d be glad to hunt it down for you! Also, I don’t except anyone to actually read everything that I’ve made. This post is mostly for myself, but please skim it and enjoy!

Note the dates. . . look at this progress!

  1. This is a ridiculous list! You’re a cooking stud :-) Keep up the good work! Your next challenge should be to write out every one of those recipes on your blog!

  2. teenagehealthfreak says:

Wowza!! You go girl!!!..this reminds me of Julie & Julia!! :)

  3. Daisy says:

oh my goodness. cooking machine. awesome work. you should be proud!!

  4. mom says:

Daughter dear, I had no idea how MUCH you cook/bake, but I remember fondly nearly all of these dishes. Ina’s potato & celery root puree, that lemon tart (olive oil crust), spatchcock turkey and of course the ultimate choc. chip cookies are some of my favorites….but sooooo many of the dishes you’ve made have been fab. Oh, man I can’t not mention that Apple Cake (unbelievable). How lucky are we to have you in the kitchen and as our daughter!!!!!

  5. Hahaha. . . Mom, did you just type “Fab?” Thank you. :)

  6. mom says:

Yessssss, I did type fab. And I forgot about that apple pork of your creation…..also FAB;)

  7. This is AMAZING. Wow. WOW. I am speechless… you’re awesome! Seriously, now I look up to you more than ever. Gosh! All this stuff sounds so good… maybe you can re-chronicle every dish on the blog, plus a little bit of the side story! It’s a great Julie-style project, don’t you think? ;)

    Wei-Wei

    • Thank you so much! The funny thing is, I remember making EVERY SINGLE ONE. I could tell you when I made it and who I made it for. Going through my journal and typing this post was a fun project. :D

  8. Rachel says:

You remind me of myself! I really enjoy cooking and baking, and the people you make recipes from (Ina Garten, Martha Stewart) I have many times also. So as I look at your lists, I can kind of reminisce with you.

I can’t believe you went through and listed ALL of them though — sooo much work. But, good for you. And, I think it was smart of you to write down when you made a recipe.

P.S. It was really cute to see your composition books when you were little. It’s always fun to look back at what you wrote.

  9. Damjana says:

    Wow, so impress so much!
That’s a great idea to put down the dishes you made, and oh such cute diaries!
Which is your top favourite dish (if you have to choose only one)?

    • Hahaha, the most difficult question! Ina’s Fennel, Apple and Celery Root Puree is FANTASTIC. The flavors work so well together and my family has made it a Thanksgiving staple . . . It really depends on what category though!

Like I said at the top, the bolded recipes are the EXCEPTIONAL ones. A lot of the normal font ones are great too, but BOLD means top-knotch.

  10. Claire says:

Amazing! What a good idea to record all you cook, think I might start a list now. I’ve done a similar thing though with taking photographs of everything.
Keep up the good work! :D

    • Thank you! I still want to keep a running list, but I don’t want to blog about every single recipe. . . I’m trying to figure out how to put it all on my blog and still keep things organized. :)

  11. kath says:

    That is quite the list!

  12. Oh my gosh, Sami! That is so cool! I am very, very impressed. I bet you’re an amazing chef. :)

  13. CourtandWhit says:

I like how you have handwritten journals as recipe books, we just have a huge binder filled with printouts. Those will be great to keep for years to come :)

  14. aauntiem says:

I love the notes you have made for the bombed recipes. You are hilarious!

  15. Daniel says:

Wow, I just came across your blog and this is quite an impressive list of recipes you’ve made! I’d first like to congratulate you on a great accomplishment like this. ^_^

Second, I have to ask – because I’m trying my darndest myself – do you have any tips for 100% whole wheat bread making? I noticed that you have a few 100% WW bread recipes listed and bolded, so I’m guessing you make them on a regular basis. I try to use as few ingredients as possible (like not using an overabundance of unnecessary added sugars, oils, juices, etc.) and I was just curious if you could lend a hand.

Keep up the love for cooking!

    • I do have a few suggestions!
      1. Usually, I only use the times for rising as a guideline. It’s important to see that the bread has risen to fill then pan and poof over. Most of the time, I extend the rising time.
      2. Also, pay close attention to moistness of the dough. I’ve found that moister doughs rise more easily and have a better final product.
      3. Finally, “push” the bread by baking it to it’s full doneness. You shouldn’t take it out of the oven until it’s completely golden. Some people think that this will cause the bread to be dry, but that’s not true. If you cool your bread properly and then wrap it tightly, it will stay moist for days!

This is the best recipe that I’ve made (I used maple syrup and canola oil). You could try reducing the amounts, but if you do so, I can’t promise such fantastic results. I hope this helps, and thanks for the compliment. :D

    • Yay! I get to give someone details. :)
      T
Chickpea Butternut Salad – MUST make!! I’ve made it at least five times, and I RARELY repeat recipes. The squash must be cooked, but do not caramelize it, because the flavors in this salad are fresh. The dressing, red onion, and cilantro are essential.

The Baked Brownie – had the most amazing top, crunchy layer! It was like a crackly, paper-like coating that shattered in your mouth. Mmmmm. :) Super fudgy. I left out the cayenne and cinnamon and because I made them for my friends, but if I made them again, I’d definitely add the spices.

Omega Date Granola – I’ll say it again, the best I’ve made! :) Sweet and clustery. The walnuts have a really nice roasted flavor, and I just love dates anyway.

Butternut Pear & Vanilla Soup – Smooooooth and creamy. A sweet soup, and very complex and well balanced. I’ve probably made 10 butternut squash soups and this one is in the top three. (Number one is probably Gourmet’s Farmhouse Butternut Squash Soup with bacon and green apple).

I’ve LOVE to bake 24/7. :D Thank you for your compliments.

      • Ahhhh! I wish I could be like you in so
Many ways! I love to bake hut I’m just, bad at it! I mean I guess I just haven’t found the right recipe books yet! In a non creepy way, I’m your wanna be haha I wish in so many ways I was good at cooking because I spend so much time cooking but it just almost never comes out right! Grr, I’ve gotta get searching for a good book! Anyways, thanks for the reply it helped alot! Love your blog, so much! Have a great night <3
